Azad Visit Chennai to Talk with TN Chiefminister

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad is likely to visit Chennai tomorrow to hold talks with DMK chief and Tamilnadu's chiefminister Mr.M Karunanidhi in a bid to break the deadlock over allocation of ministerial berths.

Azad is being deputed as the Congress emissary to persuade the DMK chief after the party announced yesterday that it will give outside support to the UPA government, Congress sources said. Karunanidhi left for Chennai this morning with his son M K Azhagiri but left instructions that DMK MPs must attend the swearing-in ceremony of Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening.

"All DMK MPs will attend the swearing-in ceremony," senior DMK leader T R Baalu said in Chennai. "DMK is not worried. Congress is our friend," he said giving indications that the party had not foreclosed its option for further talks to end the stalemate.

Selvi.J.Jeyalalitha apposes 'Sethu Project' at Rameshwaram

The AIDMK is opposed to the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project as it would seriously affect the livelihood of fishermen, party general secretary Jayalalithaa has said.

Ms. Jayalalithaa, said the party was opposed to the project as it would irreparably affect the livelihood of the fishermen. She was replying to DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s criticism on the Sethusamudhram issue.

“This project will certainly leave thousands of fishermen in a state of helplessness. Moreover, it will badly affect the delicate marine ecosystem in the region where the project is being executed. That is why the AIADMK, only with the objectives of safeguarding the fishermen, their livelihood and the marine ecosystem, is opposing the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project,” she reiterated.

Vaiko May be arrested?

MDMK leader Vaiko and actor & politician Vijaya T. Rajendher may be arrested for alleged anti-national speeches, Chennai police Commissioner K. Radhakrishnan said on Sunday.

Police commissioner Mr.Radhakrishnan told, "The copies of the speeches by Vaiko and Rajendher are being analysed for various legal aspects. We have already registered a case against Vaiko. There are possibilities of arresting them." Mr. Vaiko has already been arrested twice on the same issues.

Former legislator Rajendherr has switched parties several times. He leads a party All India Latchiya DMK and currently hosts a talk show on Sun TV, a channel part-owned by Dayanidhi Maran, the DMK candidate for Central Chennai constituency. Mr. Rajendherr is a bitter critic of Mr. Vaiko and the actor-turned-politician Vijaykanth, all of whom espouse the cause of sufferings of the Tamil ethnic minority in Sri Lanka.

கழகத்தின் நலன் கருதியே இதுவரை பத்திரிக்கை பேட்டிகள், அறிக்கைகளைத் தவிர்த்து வந்துள்ளேன். பல பத்திரிக்கை நண்பர்கள் அணுகிய போதெல்லாம் பேட்டியை தவிர்த்து வந்தேன். அண்ணா அறிவுறுத்திய கடமை, கண்ணியம், கட்டுப்பாடு கொஞ்சமும் வழுவாது இது நாள் வரை பொறுமை காத்து வந்தேன். நானும், என்னைச் சார்ந் தவர்களும் சந்தித்து வரும் கசப்பான அனுபவங்கள் வேறு யாருக்கேனும் ஏற்பட்டிருந்தால், அவர்களின் முடிவு வேறுவிதமாக இருந்திருக்கும்.

22ம் தேதி நடைபெறவிருக்கும் நம்பிக்கை கோரும் வாக்கெடுப்பில் எ னது நிலை குறித்து தொலைக் காட்சிகளும், நாளேடுகளும் ஊகத்தின் அடிப்படையில் பல தகவல்களை தந்து வருகின்றன. வாக்கெடுப்பில் கலந்து கொள்ளாமல் இருக்கப்போகிறேன். வெளிநாடு போகப் போகிறேன் என செய்திகள் வெளியாகி வருகின்றன. இதையடுத்து அகில இந்திய அளவில் பல கட்சிகளின் மூத்த தலைவர்களும் தொலைபேசி மூலம் தொடர்பு கொண்டு சிலர் நேரில் என்னை சந்தித்துப் பேசினர், அவர்களிடம் எனது நிலையை விளக்கியுள்ளேன்.

இந்த சூழ்நிலையில், நம்பிக்கை வாக்கெடுப்பில் எனது நிலைப்பாட்டை தெளிவாக்க விரும்புகிறேன். வாக்கெடுப்பின்போது என்ன முடிவு எடுக் கப் போகிறேன் என்ற ஆர்வமும், ஐயமும் ஏற்பட காரணம் உண்டு. கடந்த ஒரு ஆண்டாக என்னையும், என்னைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களையும் காயப்படுத்த பல வழிகளில் நடைபெறும் முயற்சிகளை நாடறியும். என்னால், திமுகவுக்கும், திமுக தலைமைக்கும், எந்த ஒரு அவப்பெயரும் வந்து விடக் கூடாது என்பதற்காக, எனது இதய வலிகளையெல்லாம் எனக்குள்ளேயே தாங்கினேன்.

அரசியல் ரீதியாகவும், தனிப்பட்ட முறையிலும், எனக்கும், என்னைச் சார்ந்தவர்களுக்கும் ஒரு ஆண்டு காலமாக எப்படியெல்லாம் மன உளைச்சல் தரப்பட்டது என்பதை நாடறியும். கழகத்திற்கும், கழகத் தலைமைக்கும் எதிராக நான் செயல்பட்டதில்லை. குடியரசுத் தலைவர் மற்றும் குடியரசு துணைத் தலைவர் தேர்தலிலும் கூட கழகம் ஆதரித்த வேட்பாளர்களையே ஆதரித்து வாக்களித்தேன். காங்கிரஸ், திமுக கூட்டணி உருவானதிலும், கூட்டணி உறவு மேம்பட வும் எனது பங்கு சிறிதளவாவது உண்டு என பலரும் அறிவர்.

என்னைத் தொலைபேசியில் அழைத்து வாக்கெடுப்புக்கு ஆதரவு கோரிய காங்கிரஸ் தலைவர் சோனியா காந்திக்கும், பிரதமர் மன்மோகன் சிங்குக்கும் அமைச்சர்கள் பிரணாப் முகர்ஜிக்கும், லாலு பிரசாத் யாதவ், கமல்நாத், ஜி.கே. வாசன், நாராயண சாமி, அமகது படேல் ஆகியோருக்கும், தமிழக காங்கிரஸ் தலைவர் தங்கபாலுவுக்கும் எனது நன்றிகள்.

இடதுசாரிகளுடன் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள கருத்து வேறுபாடு காரணமாக, மத்திய அரசுக்கு நெருக்கடி ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த நிலையில், எனது நிலைப்பாடு என்ன என்று கேட்கப்படுகிறது. நான் காயப்பட்டாலும் கண்ணியம் காப்பேன், களங்கப்படுத்தினாலும் கடமையைச் செய்வேன். காரணம், நான் முரசொலி மாறனின் மகன். எந்த அரசியல் கட்சியின் சார்பாக வேட்பாளராக நின்று வெற்றி பெற்றேனோ அந்த கட்சிக்கும், தலைமைக்கும் முடிவுக்கு கட்டுப்பட்டு ஜனநாயக கடமை ஆற்றுவேன். தமிழக மக்களுக்கு நன்றி உள்ளவனாக இருப்பேன்.

அரசுக்கு எதிராக வாக்களிப்பார் அல்லது வாக்களிக்காமல் நடுநிலை வகிப்பார் என இரு வேறு தகவல்கள் கடந்த சில நாட்களாக உலவி வந்த இந்த நிலையில் அரசுக்கு ஆதரவாகவே தமது நிலை என்பதை தயாநிதி மாறன் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான செய்தியா ளர்கள், புகைப்படக்காரர்கள் உள்ளிட்டோ ர் மத்தியில், தனது நிலையை தயாநிதி மாறன் தெளிவுபடுத்தியிருக்கிறார்.
